OUR BELIEFS

Creedal
Faithful to Apostolic Teaching
We confess that God is three persons in one eternal being—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
We believe God has created the world, rescued humanity from sin and death, and abides
with us as His disciples, servants, and children. We believe in Jesus Christ as the second
person of the Trinity and the Savior of the world, who lived, died, and rose again. We believe
God has established the Church to perform His will as we await the culmination of all
things to their divinely appointed end.
We are guided by the historic creeds of the Christian church:
the Nicene Creed, the Apostles Creed, and the Athanasian Creed.

Scriptural
Faithful to the Bible
We believe the Bible is God’s unfailing word, revealing the big story of His work to save and restore. It is the story that shapes how we see the world, our lives, and what we’re called to do. Everything we are and everything we do fits into this bigger picture of God’s grace and rescue. As we live out our faith and serve others, we see ourselves as part of His ongoing story—one that began long ago but continues today through us and through the hope He offers to the world. At New City, whether it’s how we gather, serve, or connect with others, we try to let God's self-disclosure in Scripture guide everything we do.

Connectional
Linked to a Denomination
We are happily a part of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, a confessional denomination
that provides us guidance, oversight, and support. We affirm with our denomination, “In
essentials, unity. In non-essentials, liberty. In all things, charity; truth in love. ” For more
information about the EPC, read more at https://epc.org/.

Ecumenical
United to the Universal Church
We believe that Jesus Christ established one Church, composed of all who follow Him. This
church is separated by time, distance, language, culture, and tradition, yet still is one. We
seek to be humble enough to learn from these brothers and sisters from different parts of
the Church and work to make us one as God is one. We take seriously the scriptural
commands to love each other and want to participate in fighting for the unity of Christ’s
Church.

Sacramental
Reliant on God's Means of Grace
Following our denomination’s teachings, we believe in two sacraments: Baptism and the
Lord’s Supper. Baptism is a sacrament that admits the baptized into the visible church and
is a sign and seal of God’s covenant of grace. Through the Lord’s Supper, we believe that we
truly encounter Jesus Christ in the bread and the cup. Communion is not merely a symbol
or an act of remembering, but this holy act brings us in the real presence of Jesus Christ by
His Spirit. All baptized followers of Jesus who come with faith and repentance are welcome
at our Lord’s table.

Incarnational
Faith in Real Life
As disciples of Jesus, responding to His Great Commandment and Commission, we want to live like Him—sharing His Gospel and putting it into action. That means caring about others first, stepping into culture with love, and partnering with God to bring freedom, justice, and mercy to everyone we encounter. We want to be Jesus's hands and feet.
