OUR VALUES

Love
Caring for Each Other
How do we know we are followers of Jesus? Jesus plainly says when we love one another and those around us. We take that seriously. All of our values stem from God's love for us in Jesus Christ given to us by the power of the Spirit. This is why love shapes all of the things that we value here at New City. Without love, we are not a church. Without love, we are nothing.

Discipleship
A Safe Place to Grow in Your Faith
We are convinced that our purpose as a church is to make disciples, i.e. to help people become more and more like King Jesus. We want that to happen in a safe environment. Maybe you've been hurt by church before. Maybe you’re dealing with doubts, going through a rough patch, or your marriage is struggling. Whatever it is, church should be a safe space—a place to be real, to ask questions, and to experience God’s love without judgment. We’re not here to shame anyone, use people for what they can do, or pressure anyone into serving when they’re not ready. We believe you come to church to heal, grow, and be filled first—then, when the time is right, you can give back out of what God’s doing in your life.

Dignity
Recognizing our Common Humanity
A lot of people today are looking for a sense of purpose, so that they feel valuable. The Bible tells us that every single person is made in the image of God. That means we don’t have to earn our worth — it’s already built into who we are. We're created with dignity, value, and purpose from the start. Because of that, we believe everyone deserves to be treated with respect and kindness. The church should be the place where that is the most apparent.

Diversity
Celebrating Our Differences
As members of a universal church and being situated in a city that contains a mixture of
various cultures and experiences, we celebrate the unique people that make up our church
both locally and globally. We do not see diversity as a hurdle to overcome but as a
summons to listen and learn from one another, so we can see the beauty and glory of our
Lord in new ways. In this spirit, here at New City we often use confessions of faith from
around the world to remind us of our connection to brothers and sisters in Christ around
the world.

Community
It Takes a Village
We believe the Christian life was never meant to be lived alone. We are grateful that we
have the opportunity to worship together and share in each other’s lives. To that end, we
have programming that encourages deeper connections between members of our church
that we might bear one another’s burdens and joys. We also are so glad to part of the South
Bend and larger Michiana community; we seek to be good neighbors who model Christ’s
love and compassion.

Compassion
Shaped by the Heart of Jesus
Jesus Christ was not content to see humanity in its sinful state and let us languish. He was
moved by compassion to rescue and deliver us. We are seeking to culminate Christlike,
compassionate hearts that see the needs in our congregation and in our neighbors and are
moved to give our time, effort, and money to love each other. We want to spread the riches
of the Gospel with our neighbors and meet practical needs as we are able.
